Rules and Play safe

A club that has set its governing body sees that body's age-grade rules for each team: players a side, pitch size, the most minutes a child can play, tackle height and similar. Every card says where its values come from and when they were checked. Beside it, the body's Play safe card says what to do when someone is hurt. Cards show only once Whole Team has checked them against the season's documents and published them; until then a team shows no card at all.

Set the governing body

  1. Choose Settings at the foot of the rail on the left.
  2. Under Governing body, choose your club's body, for example the Scottish Rugby Union, and save.
  3. Each team also needs its age band and season: open the team, choose Team details, set both and choose Save team (see Seasons and labels).

Where the cards appear

  • The team page: the rules card for the team's age band, with the Play safe card under it.
  • Every event: the rules card, folded, so a coach can check a value on the day.
  • A coach's first session: the Play safe card at the top.
  • A session plan with a contact block: the Play safe card on the plan.
  • All teams at once: choose Coach in the rail on the left, then Rules and Play safe.
A rules card with a club value that differs

Reading a card

  • Each value has its label, for example Most minutes in any 48 hours: 90 min.
  • Where the club has agreed a different value, the card shows it with differs from the body's name and the club's reason, with the body's own value beneath. See Overriding a rule.
  • The last line is the source and the date it was checked. A card can't be published without a source.

Play safe

The card starts with Call 999 for an emergency., then the body's own line on injuries and a link to its guidance. It ends by saying who is responsible on the day: the club's safeguarding officer and first-aiders.

The Play safe card

Good to know

  • The pictures on this page use a test card, not a real regulation.
  • The Scottish Rugby Union and RFU cards for 2026/27 are drafts until they are checked against that season's documents. Until they are published, clubs on those bodies see no card.
  • The minutes sheet uses the card's full-game length and 48-hour limit. See Minutes and fairness.
